Misc. Knitting Notes

Just because I'm a reenactor doesn't mean I have to stick strictly with period knitting :).  I'm having lots of fun with modern yarns this year, knitting Christmas presents for my nephews, sibs and friends (and friends' kids).  Did you see a yarn that looked fun but which you passed up because "it's not period"?  Go back and buy the darned thing!  Who says all your knitting has to be period-correct?

Here are a few of the things I've been knitting:

Online Knitting Resources:

Dishcloth Boutique
-- a great way to teach knitting or learn new stitch techniques!
Knitting Graph Paper at BrownFox.com
Knitting tips and tricks at Maggie's Rags
KnittingHelp.com -- great video clips! Especially helpful for casting on, drawings for which can be confusing even in the best of knitting books.
Knitlist tips page
Knitting with Handspun Yarns -- has tips on calculating yardage
Fiber & Yarn Conversion Chart
Norwegian Purl
Size & Fit Chart for Women
Stitchguide.com

Civil War Knitting Patterns:

World War I Knitting Patterns:
American Red Cross Knits
-- knitting patterns from World Wars I and II.  Ok, so this is reenacting-related, just not 18th century

World War II Knitting Patterns:
World War II Knitting Patterns

Books on Knitting:
Folk Socks by Nancy Bush-- not a book on period knitting, but can help with reconstructing period knitting techniques
